Deepika Padukone is the first ambassador for the Indian house of Louis Vuitton

Would you say we are exaggerating if we say that Deepika Padukone is the equivalent of Midas in Indian fashion? Everything she touches ends up turning to gold. In 2017, the actor was the only other Indian in the Met Gala with Priyanka Chopra. She was also one of a handful of Indians to appear on the cover of international magazines, to occupy special front-row seats in avant-garde catwalks during important international fashion weeks, and to never be turned down by designers – Indian and international – if she feels like wearing them. She is the arbiter of trends and has the power to cause spikes in brand searches when she makes an appearance in her chosen outfits. That power to pull 66 million people into her orbit with everything she does is enough to make brands want to partner with her. This is why the news of Louis Vuitton, the French Luxury House, making Deepika Padukone its first ambassador for the Indian House hardly surprises us.

For fashion observers, this association was long in coming. The partnership rumors had started when the actor started dropping airport looks into head-to-toe Louis Vuitton ensembles. They were fortified when Deepika, dressed in chic khaki shorts, cropped velvet blazer and a sheer ruffled undershirt with polka dot detailing and leather boots from the Maison’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection, attended the Louis Vuitton gala dinner in Venice in April. She was seen wearing the Dauphine handbag with the Maison’s “Since 1854” jacquard textile – an interpretation of the same leather goods that is now his first campaign with the luxury house. Dressed in chic white outfits, the actor holds the handbag wrapped in Louis Vuitton’s signature monogram. Deepika is seen alongside actors Emma Stone and Zhou Dongyu.

If you thought this was the actor’s first association with the brand or its creative director Nicholas Ghesquiere, you couldn’t be further from the truth. In 2020, Deepika was part of the pre-fall campaign where she posed for an imaginary horror/thriller movie poster titled Do not turn around based on the book of the same name by writer Michelle Gagnon.
