NESPELEM – The Colville Indian Housing Authority announced today that it will provide rent relief to all tenants of CIHA housing for rent payments, homebuyer payments and utility payments for April and May in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a letter to tenants, CIHA Executive Director Douglas R. Marconi Sr. noted: “The Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) enacted on March 27, 2020 provides Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) funds for tribes and tribal-designated housing entities to be used for activities and projects designed to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19, and maintain impacted operations by COVID-19. “
The letter further notes that the Office of Native American Programs of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development authorizes the use of IHBG funds for rent relief, payments to homebuyers and service programs. public, and in response, the CIHA Council of Commissioners by resolution approved funding for relief in April and May.
